Welcome to the beach episode!!!

On the 9th, Nautis beams a signal into the Abyss to help Dirk and Reese find their way home. It takes the appearance of a shooting star in the endless void of the sky, pointing them to the weakest point of the Abyss's dimension where their magic can break through. The escape from the Abyss is harrowing, and they almost don't make it, but on their way out, they overhear conversation between Shellustria and another Harbinger whose voice they don't recognize that suggests they aren't even aware that they're working for a higher entity.

Nautis is reasonably certain that there's Harbinger activity at Littleneck Beach, which means it's time for the whole team to make a day trip! This is a mandatory team outing, meaning that Nautis will spam you with annoying text messages until you cave. Worried about your secret identity? Concerned that your supernova outfit is ill-suited to the beach in hot weather? Never fear! Nautis helpfully informs you that you all have alternate summer-themed supernova costumes you can summon for the beach. This can be a swimsuit but it could also just be a summer-ready outfit with a magical sunhat. Whatever floats your costume boat! Please note, however, that being in supernova only provides about 15 SPF worth of sun protection, so don't forget your sunscreen!

The best way to get to Littleneck Beach is the shuttle bus that runs every other hour, so get ready to sit on public transit for about an hour in supernova! Unless, of course, anyone has a van that seats eleven.

When the Nova Knights go to the beach on the 11th, Nautis encourages them to explore as much of the beach and boardwalk as possible to figure out what the Harbingers are up to. You might as well have some fun as long as you're here, right? And while you're at it, catch some shrimp! There are tournaments for beach volleyball and sandcastle building happening that day, both of which turn out somewhat eventfully for the Nova Knights: Dirk & Maya and Natalia & Harley both make it to the quarter finals of the beach volleyball tournament, and Mabel gets second place at the sandcastle building tournament!

Their info-gathering is successful, too, and they pick up on two different plots by the Harbingers. The Seafoam Five and Chime currently stocks PEARLESCENCE™ brand sunscreen, which slowly drains the energy of those who wear it, and sports drink brand darling Potari Sweet is being used in concert with the Three Sisters to drive competitive beachgoers to go to increasingly risky lengths to win. The Harbingers are harvesting that particular impulse as well, though for what reason, it's still unclear...

Armed with knowledge and some kind of plan, the Nova Knights return to the beach on the 13th to take care of business. Natalia and Mutsumi send Melasoletta back to the Abyss, but not before the harvested energy does, meaning that in spite of their victory, the Abyss has still gotten a little stronger. Maya and Jamil do an absolute bang-up job of stealing the Three Sisters back from the enemy, even if the Constellation is in pretty banged-up condition. There aren't any idle hands among the rest of the Nova Knights, either — between fighting lesser monsters, helping civilians, and collecting/confiscating/destroying bottles of sunscreen and Potari Sweet, there's plenty of action going on around the Constellation capture.

What's going on in Chalra City during all this? Don't worry about it! Nothing more interesting than what's happening about the beach!

The Nova Knights, exhausted and maybe a little sunburnt from their beach exploits, return to the hideout more or less victorious, though Nautis needs to run some magical diagnostics on the Three Sisters right away. On the evening of the 14th, she reports that she's lost track of the Abyss and the Harbingers' ship. She should be able to re-locate it using the same methods as before, but the Harbingers are clearly taking measures since their ship was infiltrated.

Beach monsters! If you need some for threading purposes, here are some guys your guys could be fighting!
Lesser sunscreen slimes: A pearl-like core surrounded by creamy, shimmery goop. Much like Melasoletta, they'll try to cover beachgoers in sunscreen slime to drain their energy. They are kinda cute, though!
Seaweed tangles: Seemingly innocuous at first, bundles of seaweed granted magical life will shoot out slippery tendrils to trap and trip beachgoers. Slimy!
Overzealous beachgoers: Not actually monsters, but civilians in the throes of the Three Sisters-enhanced Potari Sweet may become aggressive and even combative if someone tries to usher them to safety. It really tests your conflict resolution skills when bonking someone with your magical weapon isn't an option!

"Right now, nothing. The engine's off." Neos is finding herself happy to do, pointing out the wire linkage as it moves. "If you follow that wire, you'll see it disengages the power, so it doesn't hurt the engine when you shift gears."

She stands and slings up the umbrella-lance on her shoulder, looking out over the boardwalk. For now, looks... Relatively normal.

Mortis lets out an approving and interested oooh as Neos points out the mechanical workings of her vehicle. All of these explanations go right over her head, but she obviously thinks it's cool.

"Wow, Neos, you're so smart! I've never gotten to ride a motorbike." She beams. "But you'll take me for a ride later, right? Once we finish beating up those bad guys!"

Neos gets the particular vibe that Mortis thinks she's showing off, so she says, "... Mn. It's not that impressive. Most of these things are in the manual. I could show you if you like."

Well, but she actually read the manual.

"But-- yes. Perhaps we can have a ride together, after." She hides her smile by looking away. "For now, however, eyes forward. We have a windmill to tilt at."

"Anybody can read a manual," Mortis says with the slightest scoff in her voice. "But not everyone can use what they read. That's what I like about you, Neos. Words are a bell a billion! People can talk big all they want, but when it's time to put their money where their mouth is, most people flake right out."

She shrugs, palms turned flat out. "But not you, Neos! You take action."

It is time to focus up, though, as much as she'd like to just enjoy the beach with her friends. She nods firmly, an uncharacteristically grave look settling over her features. There's a faint echo of Nova Zenith in the posture she adopts — back straight, shoulders squared.

"It's time to shine a light onto the darkness," she says in so accurate a mimicry of his tone that it might almost be taken as something done in jest, but she looks utterly serious in contrast to her chipper attitude just a minute ago.

They walk forward, and the two of them step into the stalls...

And suddenly, the atmosphere begins to change. Eyes follow them, silently, like being shunned in a small town; the dimensional coordinates start to shift and curl. "They know."
